TEHRAN - Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Ali Ahani says that Iran is ready to cooperate with Uruguay in its efforts to campaign against drugs.
Ahani made the remarks during a meeting with Uruguayan Deputy Foreign Minister Roberto Conde in Montevideo on Friday, in which Conde cited drug smuggling as a social problem the Latin American country is grappling with.
Ahani told Conde that Iran attaches great significance to its comprehensive relations with Latin American countries.
He also said that the Islamic Republic has great experience in campaign against drugs and is ready to share its expertise with Latin American countries, particularly, the members of the South American economic bloc Mercosur, namely Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
Ahani and Conde also agreed to take measures necessary to establish Tehran-Montevideo joint political committee.
They also discussed the latest developments taking place in the world, including the financial crisis affecting dollar-based economies.
